The Abortion Pills at Renah

Also known as medication abortion

Take medicines to end an early pregnancy

Safe and effective

First Trimester Abortion (Up to 13 weeks)

Abortion pills are the most frequently used method because most women can not afford the alternative. It is used all over the world, and it is effective. It is most effective for early termination. Two types of pills can be utilized, or one type. Either way, you will get the required results.

Patients will take mifepristone (the abortion pill)  and receive misoprostol to take at home at any time within 48 hours. Most people will have a complete abortion within 4–24 hours of using misoprostol but some bleeding and cramping may persist for a few days to weeks.

Your health care provider will give you the abortion pill at the clinic. The abortion pill works by blocking the hormone progesterone. Without progesterone, the lining of the uterus breaks down, and pregnancy cannot continue.

You will take a second medicine—misoprostol. It causes the uterus to empty.

You and your health care provider will plan the timing and place for the second step. You’ll take the second medicine up to two days after taking the abortion pill. Your health care provider will give you instructions on how and when to take the second medicine.

The second medicine—misoprostol— will cause you to have cramps and bleed heavily. Some patients may begin bleeding before taking the second medicine. But for most, the bleeding and cramping begin after taking it. It usually lasts a few hours. You may see large blood clots or tissue at the time of the abortion.

Follow-up is very important to make sure your abortion is complete and that you are well. Your provider will help determine the best follow-up option for you. This could be:

  • An additional appointment for an ultrasound or blood test
  • A series of phone call check-ins with a nurse after taking an at-home pregnancy test

High-quality, compassionate surgical abortion care up to 24 weeks of pregnancy.

Surgical abortion involves a minor operation. There are different  types of surgical abortion:

Vacuum aspiration can be done with local anaesthetic, sedation, or general anaesthetic.

Removes the pregnancy by gentle suction.

Up to 14 weeks, this can be done with local anaesthetic. The quicker recovery time for this procedure means you can leave the clinic unattended and drive sooner.

Surgical Appointment

Don’t eat for at least eight hours before your operating room procedure. You may drink clear liquids (such as water, broth or tea) up to three hours before your procedure.

In the recovery room, nurses will monitor you for about two hours. You may have some cramping and spotting. Before you return home, you’ll receive antibiotics to prevent infection and instructions for postsurgical care.

Dilatation and Evacuation – between 15 and 24 weeks of pregnancy.

Up to 18 weeks it may be under general anaesthetic or conscious sedation.

At 18 weeks or above the procedure is done under general anaesthetic.

The pregnancy is removed using narrow forceps through the neck of the womb (cervix).

Fetal demise is provoked by injection of medication into the fetal heart. Medications used are digoxin or potassium chloride. The cervix is softened with medication and laminaria. Labor is induced and the fetus is delivered.

Morning-After Pill (Plan B)

The Morning-After Pill works similarly to other hormonal methods of birth control. If you are in the first half of your cycle or nearing the time of ovulation, the medication will try to suppress ovulation. Secondly, the medication attempts to interferes with the natural movement of the sperm through cervical mucus changes. However, if ovulation has already occurred, the drugs work by irritating the lining of the uterus., As a result, implantation is not possible, resulting in embryo expulsion (early abortion).

Common side effects are nausea and vomiting. Other health problems include increased risk of ectopic (tubal) pregnancy, which can be very dangerous and even life-threatening if left untreated.
